Artist Statement

Jabriel’s Animation Artist Statement

During my adolescent, pubescent years, I have always enjoyed playing video games and watching cartoons. This sparked my curiosity and desire to dive into the world of animation and video game production. It amazed me how much content, beliefs, and virtue could be present in one video game or one episode. Living three decades now and pursuing higher education in Graphic Design and Animation has taught me many things about what I am capable of as an artist.

As an entrepreneur in the animation and video game production industry, my goal is to bring a different approach to the scene. The plan is to experiment with traditional and new forms of animation to create compelling stories. Clay animation, and 2D animation would be used collaboratively to relay a compelling story. Incorporating 3D models into the animation and using a 3D printer to create prototypes, and buildings for my clay animation scenes will also render desired results. Using the 3D printer to create action figures to promote my projects and stories is one of my marketing strategies. I also desire to finally create my awesome video game that emphasizes combating radical groups, freedom, spirituality, enlightenment and liberation from oppressors.

The animation I plan to create for my BFA Final Project sets story in Africa. It touches base on the unfortunate events Africans face in Sudan or Uganda when dealing with radical religion groups such as the LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army). The story shines light on the interpretation of God as being an omnipotent, evil and good force in our lives. The armies in this film symbolize the destructions of opposing forces and warfare. The girl that undertake these unfortunate events symbolizes our positional state compared to God, and mankind’s innate instinct to survive, and/or fight against harsh misfortunes and hardships.
